to privacy.
Choosing and comparing
Questionnaire answers remain in the current page and are not sent to a server. Location preference and selected breed IDs may be saved on your device. Saved shortlists contain breed IDs only. Filter settings stay in the current page. Shared comparison and shortlist links contain breed choices, not household answers. CSV downloads contain the displayed public breed guidance. This edition does not add marketing cookies. See the analytics section below for what Cloudflare measures.
In the finder, “Download my questions” explicitly saves a text file containing your selected answers, questions and care results to your device. It is generated in the page and is not uploaded to ChooseMyDoggy. Review the file before sharing it. Clearing saved location and breed choices does not delete a file you have downloaded; manage that through your device.
Analytics: Cloudflare Web Analytics
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see aggregate page views and page speed. Cloudflare adds a small script when a page is served. Its script sets no cookies and uses no local storage. For each page view it records the page address (including anything after a “?”, such as the breed choices in a shared comparison link), the page that referred you, page-load timings, and browser, operating system, device type and country. Cloudflare handles your IP address to deliver the request and to work out country, but we do not receive it. We do not send household answers, budget entries, shortlist contents or feedback text to analytics, and we add no custom events. Cloudflare provides these reports to us in aggregate; we do not try to identify individual visitors. If you block scripts or use a browser privacy setting that blocks analytics, the site works the same.
Private feedback
If you send feedback, your category, message, optional source link, optional email, the page pathname you were on and the site release identifier are stored privately. An optional email is used only to reply, never for marketing. Please do not include sensitive personal information. Opening the form sends nothing to us; submitting it does. Any source link is stored exactly as you enter it.
Submissions are read by the site owner and by the AI assistants that help build the site, who read them from the private database during development sessions. Do not include anything you would not want read. Messages and contact details are never published or posted on GitHub; only de-identified summaries of what we changed may appear, for example on the “You said, we did” page.
We do not store IP addresses in the feedback database; Cloudflare’s rate limiter uses them briefly to slow repeated submissions. Cloudflare processes technical request information to deliver and protect the site. Cloudflare Turnstile, a spam check, loads when you open the feedback form and is verified with Cloudflare when you submit.
Retention
Each day, cleanup removes raw messages, source links and any remaining optional email after 90 days. Email is also cleared when feedback is resolved, declined or marked duplicate. Reviewed, de-identified summaries and task metadata can remain until the submission is one year old, when the record is deleted. These periods apply to the active database; Cloudflare recovery backups expire separately, within up to 30 further days.
Privacy requests
We publish no email address. To ask about a submission, or to ask for it to be removed, use the feedback form and choose “A privacy or deletion request”. We will review it and remove what we can identify and delete; copies in Cloudflare recovery backups expire as described above. Describe the submission (what you wrote and roughly when, on which page) so we can find it; we can only act on what we can identify. Do not include more personal information than needed. We do not send automatic replies, so add an email address in the form only if you want us to answer you.
